Promoting French literature written by women is the aim of the Prix de la Closerie des Lilas, which rewards a novel written by a woman every year. Oriane Jeancourt Galignani was rewarded this year in the mythical brewery of the boulevard Montparnasse, with her book “Hadamar”. She will now be the site’s special guest for the coming year. The event, which brings together every year the elite of the Parisian literary sphere, also gave the opportunity to decorate Véronique Sanson, elected Woman of the Year 2017 by the Lilac Academy. This assembly entirely composed of female figures from the world of art and culture brings together distinguished authors such as Amélie Nothomb or the journalist Anne Nivat. The atmosphere was festive, as the prize celebrated its tenth anniversary this Wednesday alongside Claude Lelouch and Benjamin Biolay, honorary president of the prize and guest of honour respectively this year. They joined the 2017 guest jury, which included actresses Bérénice Bejo and Emmanuelle Devos, and the artist Orlan. Among a packed audience, artists and specifiers from the French cultural scene had not failed to celebrate ten years of support for quality women’s literature.
