From October 20, 2015 to January 23, 2016, the Galerie des Galeries invites the American artist Alex Prager for his first solo exhibition in France. On this occasion, the photographer and director presents her recent works, including her latest film.
Alex Prager has made a name for herself through her very specific productions in which she cites the imagery of the golden age of Hollywood drama to better reveal the strangeness of contemporary individual and social life. The city of Los Angeles, where she was born, is for her an inexhaustible source of inspiration, as much in the subjects that the artist approaches: fantasy, wandering and perdition; as in the way she seizes the cinematographic industry to realize her films and her photographs. Nourished by the cinema of Alfred Hitchcock or Luis Buñuel, as well as by the works of photographers such as William Eggleston and Enrique Metinides, Alex Prager also puts forward his unconventional education to explain the construction of his own artistic universe, which combines intense colours, unexpected angles and spectacular lighting. It’s sublime.
