Nina Chanel Abney Challenges Our Time at Galerie Perrotin

Galerie Perrotin, Paris

Perrotin Paris is presenting Now What? Or What Else?, the first solo exhibition by American artist Nina Chanel Abney with the gallery. Blending figuration and abstraction, her works illustrate  the frenetic pace of our contemporary society. Abney addresses the socio-political issues of our time in a compelling and accessible manner.

Informed by the emotional effects of a prolonged crisis, this body of work evokes the experience of living in a world where collapse is a permanent state rather than an isolated event. The exhibition explores not only ecological disaster, but also the broader psychological consequences of political dysfunction, cultural absurdity, and social burnout.

At the exhibition opening, guests were treated to a glass of Perrier-Jouët champagne whilst browsing a selection of furniture provided by Pierre Augustin Rose. The evening was also the occasion for the gallery to celebrate the opening of the new Perrotin Store at 76 Rue de Turenne, which features a wide selection of art books, prints, posters, and limited editions created with the artists and inspired by the gallery’s multiple exhibitions. We had the pleasure of meeting Isabelle Ithurburu, Jerôme Sans, Julie Watier, Laurent Grasso, Rhianna Jones, Mere Watson, Pascal and Calude Cayla, Jacinta Appleton, Marie Maertens, Laurent Grasso, Mathilde Denize, Jean-Michel Othoniel, Johan Creten, Xavier Veilhan, Claire Fournier, Julian Bugier, Martin Bethenod, Racquel Chevremont, and Jasmine Manns, to name but a few.
