The Mod Girls’ creativity relives on the catwalk of N°21

For the N°21 spring summer 2025 collection, Alessandro Dell’Acqua draws inspiration from the fabulous Sixties, the decade of social and aesthetic revolutions and of the official birth of the youths category. In particular, the designer starts from the work of Swiss photographer Karlheinz Weinberger, whose work is collected in the book Rebel Youth (Rizzoli, New York, 1917). As Dell’Acqua himself explains, “In the same years, the Mod youth culture rose to the heights of prominence, while the Modettes per se represented one of the most daring forms of fashion of the day. Obviously, in my collection I don’t talk in any didactic way about the style these girls invented for themselves day after day. But I did take the creative spirit which, in my opinion, came from their urge to put different fads and fashions, mode e modi, together.” The collection actually combines hints of casual menswear with escapes into the glamour of couture. Hand-embroidered dresses with sequins are combined with parkas over PVC and nappa mules, while pencil skirts are paired with handmade chunky wool pullovers, which reveal lace vests. The careful use of accessories is noteworthy, from shoes, slingbacks and ballerinas, two-tone or bow-decorated, to maxi pearl necklaces, and long, thin multi-colored striped knitted scarves.
