Moschino’s Timeless Teasings Take To The Stage
Adrian Appiolaza’s deconstructive strategy to revamp Moschino’s aesthetics keeps on successfully. The creative director is getting increasingly better at using the most recognizable elements of the brand’s iconography to restore their freshness. This intention is evident and declared, almost shamelessly, from the moment the show opens with references to the mannequin dress. A provocation by founder Franco Moschino from 1992, it is deliberately unfinished and still basted. The catwalk proceeds with a game of references to the process of construction of garments, in which imperfection and the unfinished become stylistic choices. The tangled mix of signature intuitions and teasings proceeds in an imaginary dialogue between the founder and the creative director. On the one hand, it is evident the amplified use of the most recognizable elements of the brand, smiley, belt with the golden logo, ruffles, bows and polka dots. On the other, Appiolaza experiments with the provocative language of the Maison, with dresses made of paper or even garbage bags. The show ends with a maxi T-shirt printed with the slogan Sos-Save our sphere, an alarm already launched by Franco Moschino and, after decades, still unheard. Among those enjoying the show, we spotted Normani, Annalisa, Franco Masini, Heart Evangelista, Mabel and Alexia Eram.
