Cold met Couture on a crisp winter Monday in Paris as Moncler unveiled its 1 Moncler Pierpaolo Piccioli collection at the Picasso Museum, marking the last stop on the Moncler Genius World Tour 2019-2020. The tour, the brainchild of Moncler CEO Remo Ruffini, called on prestigious designers from all over the world to reinvent the brand’s famous puffy coat with their unique vision and signature style. Piccioli, Maison Valentino’s creative director, designed the latest collection in close collaboration with model and designer Liya Kebede whose sustainable fashion label Lemlem works with African artisans. The collection fuses couture codes with colors and patterns inspired by African culture and features fabric ball gowns, hooded jackets and capes all made from Moncler’s signature down fabric. “I am after a balance of dreaminess, extravagance and soulfulness,” Piccioli said of the collection. Kebede jumped at the chance to be a part of the unique creative process that she says was a way of “bringing together heritages that at first glimpse seemed so different, but when unexpectedly combined, create something so rich and new, redefining beauty and reminding us that there are no borders in life.”
