MM6: The 2010s Had Never Been So Cool
As cool lighting brightens the runway, casting metallic hues all over the venue, the garments onstage seem deprived of colour. This is no deceptive effect, however, since MM6 Maison Margiela’s Spring-Summer 2025 collection is indeed an exploration of the only achromatic colour, that is, white – which dominates a restrictive colour palette only allowing occasional silver, grey and black hues, set against a few denim pieces. The transformation is all in the materials that become, time after time, shiny, stiff, ripped, and wrap-around.
Much of the inspiration comes from 2010s fashion, as we can see by the large use of maxi belts, low waist, the skinny-cut denim pants with legs entirely covered in rips. Once more, sleeveless hoodies, V-neck sweaters, vests and short skirts take over the catwalk. Also emerging in the casual world of MM6 Maison Margiela are several short sheath dresses, some with central zippers, others wrapped in a rigid, transparent, almost aerodynamic structure.
Playing with the styles of the early 2000s is all too easy, elevating what belongs to the style of a decade ago is quite the opposite. In what we might call the Millennial teenage wardrobe, but better, MM6 Maison Margiela brought the 2010 style to the runway, investigating the eternal comeback of fashion eras. Even of the ones that are just behind us. On the front row were, among others: Normani, Aron Piper, Shaleeta ‘SheShe’ Pandleton and Khalid.
