Mirdidingkingathi Juwarnda Sally Gabori honored at Fondation Cartier
It”s an exhibition you don’t want to miss: the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain presents for the first time outside of Australia some 30 paintings by Mirdidingkingathi Juwarnda Sally Gabori, one of the greatest Australian Aboriginal artists of the last two decades. Sally Gabori, who passed away in 2015, began painting in her 80s, and quickly achieved national and international artistic acclaim for her vibrant colors and abstract techniques. In her works, the artist celebrates various places on her native island. The exhibition is produced in close collaboration with the artist’s family and the Kaiadilt community, as well as with leading specialists in Aboriginal art and Kaiadilt culture. They were present in Paris for the inauguration to pay tribute to this artist, including her daughter and two of her great-granddaughters who came from Australia at the invitation of the President of the Foundation Alain Dominique Perrin. With the exceptional presence of Anthony Albanese (Australian Prime Minister), Rima Abdul-Malak (Minister of Culture), Audrey Azoulay (Director General of UNESCO), Laurent Le Bon, Jean Nouvel, Nicolas Maury and Cédric Villani. A must-see until November 6 at the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain.
