Mille Maschere, Inspiration For ACT N°1, SS23

Where does the ego end and the mask begins? Today it is perhaps one of the most complex questions that few can answer, but that many ask themselves. There is the physical mask, the object that is used in theater, or the one used by the military to protect themselves. Then there is the digital mask, the story of a life on social media that perhaps does not really belong to us, but which we still want to show. A mask, whether physical or digital, still serves to protect us from something, creates a barrier between the real us and all that surrounds us. We have perhaps lost our true identity and so ACT N ° 1 is “in search of the forbidden true self”. The fashion show of the brand founded by Galib Gassanoff and Luca Lin, focuses precisely on this: the mask as a shield.

During the show, elements of Traditional Chinese Opera express this concept, along with updated details to represent the present : our past will always influence our future. The military pockets are a reference to combat uniforms, though still feminine. Corsets, tulle flounces with volumes, textures and structures suggest the idea of a shield. The concept of armor carries on with looks in which Casio Vintage watches stand out. And then there are frayed denims and cargo pants.

This is a very important show for ACT N ° 1 because it was broadcast live on Maison Valentino’s Instagram, a project created to support young designers.

The two creatives find support in the project carried out by Pierpaolo Piccioli but also in a group of interesting personalities such as Cecilia Rodriguez, Ginevra Mavilla, Oriana Sun and Vhelade.

A fashion show that is therefore built on the concept of shielding and protection, but which allows a glimpse of naked flesh through transparent clothing. Perhaps synonymous with truth. Because in the end, as Cervantes wrote in Don Quixote, “the truth may be stretched thin, but it never breaks, and it always surfaces above lies, as oil floats on water”.
