Milan Meets London in Moschino’s Collection

Adrian Appiolaza keeps on tackling the complex challenge of carrying forward the Moschino universe coherently, without falling into the trap of nostalgia. His is a gentle work of deconstruction of the brand’s codes, functional to an original and contemporary recomposition. The creative director wants to address today’s subcultures, in the hope that some still exist, with offers that connect the past with the present. Youthful freedom appears for example through chalk drawings, originally created by Franco Moschino when he was a child, now reproduced as graffiti on black cotton suits. It is all part of a playful atmosphere, which pervades the collection, celebrating and subverting the typical traits of the brand, from the Smiley to the pearls, on top of the polka dots. There is no shortage of slogans printed on dresses and T-shirts, created by Appiolaza in collaboration with Terry Jones, founder of i-D magazine. This meeting between Milan and London is also manifested in an unprecedented collaboration with the Judy Blame Trust, in a tribute to the artist who passed away in 2018, through the revisiting of some archive pieces in a Moschino key, a golden bowler hat, two decorated turbans and a pair of men’s shoes, in addition to the reproduction on a trompe-l’oeil print of a multicolored necklace. Among the colorful audience of the show were also present Eva Marcille, Normani, Heart Evangelista and many others.
