Michel Rein Unveils “Alliance des Corps”, Marinella Senatore’s First Solo Show at the Gallery
Under the guise of a special Sunday brunch, Michel Rein unveiled Marinella Senatore’s inaugural exhibition with the gallery, which she has taken over with a participatory art piece experimenting with the creative power of the collective. Through “The School of Narrative Dance”, Marinella Senatore has pushed forward a dialogue between history, culture and social structures. The Italian artist has organized gigantic parades around the world – mobilizing over 7 million participants since 2012 – mixing local communities, musicians, dancers, activists…The banners hovering over visitors in the exhibition are retrieved from these parades and recall the traditional processions of southern Italy, though devoid of their religious dimension.
Ultimately, Marinella Senatore’s work is a call for “building community”. Through dance, the artist encourages us to use our bodies as a means of resistance, by embracing their fragility and singularity. This shared need to weave new social bonds through bodily expression is a constant throughout the artist’s multidisciplinary practice. The messages written on her installations and her luminous works are injunctions to come together, become one, and celebrate life beyond our differences. During the exhibition opening, we crossed paths with Angelo Crespi, Josée et marc Gensollen, Cyrille et Margaux Troubetskoy, Ekaterina Meshkova, Maxime Georges Metraux, and Michele Ciacciofera.
