Just one month ago, Artcurial offered us a rich overview of the collections that will be the subject of its fall sales, it is now the turn of the famous French photographer Francis Giacobetti to be honoured by the auction house of the Rond-Point des Champs-Élysées. From 14 to 16 October, in association with Assouline and with the support of Lui magazine, she will present a selection of 33 photographs of the man who is often presented as the inventor of charming photography. And for good reason, the presentation of his achievements is impressive. Known for having founded, with Daniel Filipacchi, the magazine Lui in 1963, he is also the author of its most emblematic covers, sometimes even going so far as to feed his photographs with all the issues. Giacobetti is also one of the very few photographers to have signed the Pirelli calendar twice. Only Richard Avedon and Peter Lindbergh can claim to have done the same. His visionary approach also earned him a long collaboration with Issey Miyake on photographic series inspired by his emblematic “Zebra”. Not forgetting the iconic poster of the film “Emmanuelle”, again him. While the sale will take place on October 17, Artcurial invited enthusiasts to discover the selection of clichés, from his famous portrait of Grace Jones sticking out her tongue to the series of images featuring Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin recreating the violence of a couple’s quarrel, created just for Him in 1974. The exhibition is accompanied by a beautiful book published by Assouline with texts by exhibition curator Jérôme Neutres. A look back at the work of a master.
