For the third edition of the LVMH Métiers d’Art residency — a LVMH initiative directed by Léa Chauvel-Lévy to invite artists in residency in some of the LVMH group’s production sites to explore the savoir-faire and raw materials of its fashion and leather Maisons — the group gave carte blanche to French artist Marion Verboom. While the two previous editions focused on leather, this year Marion Verboom explored the possibilities of acetate. It’s a material that she learned “to shape and to inject with various external materials” during her residency at the Manifattura Thélios, dedicated to eyewear production for LVMH Maisons. Over an immersive six-month stay, the artist researched ways to push the boundaries of the material: “to structure it and to give it a soul.” At the conclusion of this residency, Jean Baptiste Voisin, LVMH Métiers d’Art President, invited Marion Verboom to present the resulting work in a solo exhibition at Galerie Jérôme Poggi. Journalists and art world professionals gathered together to celebrate the values of savoir-faire, creativity and innovation.
