Louise Bourgeois’ Art in Dialogue with the Masterpieces of Galleria Borghese

Titled “The Unconscious of Memory”, this is the first exhibition that Galleria Borghese in Rome has dedicated to a contemporary female artist. The protagonist: Louise Bourgeois, one of the most influential figures of the last century. The exhibition, conceived by Cloé Perrone and curated with Geraldine Leardi and Philip Larratt-Smith, connects the Franco-American artist’s poetics with the masterpieces of the Galleria’s collection. The exhibition path traverses several rooms, the Secret Gardens, and the Uccelliera pavilion, revealing how Rome has influenced Bourgeois’ art since her first visit in 1967. 

On the occasion of the Roman exhibition, the French Academy in Rome, Villa Medici also serves as the backdrop for another work by Bourgeois: the installation No Exit, set up in the historic apartments of Cardinal Ferdinando de’ Medici. “The Unconscious of Memory”, inaugurated the other evening in the presence of many figures from Italian and international culture such as Tracey Emin, Ippolito Pestellini, Massimo De Carlo, Jerry Gorovoy, Anna Fendi, Beatrice Bulgari, Sergio Risaliti, Zhu Zhu, was made possible thanks to the support of FENDI, the official sponsor of the exhibition.
