The Exhibition “On the Thread: from Dakar to Paris” Travels to la Galerie du 19M
The Galerie du 19M promotes fashion and decorative arts through a free multidisciplinary programme destined for all audiences. Following Chanel’s fashion show for the Métiers d’art 2022/23 collection, which took place in Dakar on December 2022, the 19M embarks on a new endeavour with its first international programme. On display in Paris from May 17 to July 31, the group exhibition “On the Thread: from Dakar to Paris” pays tribute to the richness and diversity of embroidery and weaving, mediums in which Senegal excels, thus highlighting the creative scene of the country as well as the values attached to these arts and crafts. Featuring some sixty pieces and installations that combine different media, the exhibition brings together the work of thirty artists, craftsmen, manufacturers and collectives working with textiles, some of them in collaboration with the 19M. During the exhibition opening at the Galerie du 19M, Porte d’Aubervilliers in Paris, we met Bruno Pavlovsky, SEM Magatte Seye, Pierre-Emmanuel Reiffers, Bintou Simporé, Hubert Barrère, Aïssatou Seck, Pascal Morand, Aska Yamashita, Benjamin Millepied, Selly Raby Kane, Liz Gomis, Amah Aivy…
