Saint Laurent Pays Tribute to Pioneering Female Explorers
On Monday 26 September, Anthony Vaccarello unveiled a moving collection inspired by yesteryear, flavoured with his signature glamour touch. Paying tribute to Yves Saint Laurent and his magnificent 1967 Saharienne, the designer reintroduced the silhouette of the explorer and pioneer woman, ready to conquer the world. Under a sky as pure as water, set against a sand-coloured marble surrounding, silhouettes exuded their own golden glow while gracefully parading through the City of Light.
Aviator jumpsuits, cargo trousers, and variations on safari jackets tinged with earthy and crimson hues: this year, the Saint Laurent woman is ready to take on any terrain. His wardrobe may lean towards the masculine, yet Vaccarello knows how to make the most of his style and tops off the looks with opulent ornaments, varnished stilettos with gold buckles, and sheer tops that know how to reveal cleavage with elegance. Inspired by the spirit of Amelia Earhart, one of the few pioneering female aviators of her time, the designer, too, breaks with the codes of fashion. It’s a resolutely feminist and modern collection, a new wave that carries on the legacy of the wind of freedom the brand has been advocating for decades.
A big and excellent crowd gathered at the bottom of the Eiffel Tower to attend the show, including Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kate Moss, Gaspard Noé, Diane Kruger, Demi Moore, Béatrice Dalle, Iris Law, Carla Bruni, Hailey Bieber, Rossy de Palma, Jean Paul Gaultier, Zoé Kravitz and many others.
