The Retrospective “Todd Haynes. American Chimeras” at the Centre Pompidou

Born in California in 1966, Todd Haynes is today considered to be one of the American independent filmmakers who lived and breathed the age of counter-culture alongside Kelly Reichardt or Gus Van Sant. Guest of honour of the Centre Pompidou, Haynes presents here an overview of his oeuvre, including the mini-series “Mildred Pierce”, starring Kate Winslet for HBO. It is also the occasion to discover the short film “What Stage Are You At?) specially made for the exhibition, as well as the book “American Chimeras”, a volume featuring over 150 unpublished working documents from the filmmaker’s archives as well as an extensive essay around his body of work, published in French by De l’incidence. On the eve of the opening of Cannes, where his latest film with Nathalie Portman will be presented, the director is enjoying ever-greater recognition in France! His friend and favourite Cate Blanchett, who is also the face of the exhibition poster, came in person to support the launch of the retrospective. During the opening night, we also ran into Ed Lachman, Laurent Le Bon, and Matthieu Potte-Bonneville.
