Moschino’s Punk Princesses
A surreal aristo-punk charm. Moschino’s Jeremy Scott presented a rather visionary collection where the brand’s quintessential pieces such as biker jackets, suits, logo necklaces and gold or pearl buttons were altered in a surrealist-like style, reminiscent of Salvador Dalí’s famous melting bodies and watches. The result of this unorthodox melange is a series of punk-inspired pieces that, mixed with aristocratic influences and distorted in the manner of surrealism, are meant to be the artistic director’s way of reinterpreting modern society. Bags featuring the peace symbol seem to melt while houndstooth patterns liquefy. The hair too is punk, as seen on the tops of Stella Maxwell, Adut Akech and Cara Taylor. In short, the Moschino woman doesn’t care about convention, but instead, a new aristocracy emerges, all dressed up in studs and brooches. However, being a punk does not mean giving up on elegance. The Moschino woman wants to wear precious dresses, so the collection also presents tulle ball gowns with crystal bustiers. Moschino hence opens up a new fashion vocabulary of princely dreams and punk realities.
