Lafayette Anticipations Explores the Future Through the Exhibition “Coming Soon”
At a time when the future seems uncertain and rather threatening, the group exhibition “Coming Soon” takes a look at our relationship with the unknown. By exploring predictions, oracles, systems of anticipation, upheavals and capitulations, Coming Soon combines contemporary and historical narratives. Inspired by the phrase coined by artist Barbara Kruger, “The future belongs to those who can see it”, Coming Soon looks at what our conception of the future reveals about our present; how it deals with hopes, pessimism, desires and anxieties. Ultimately, it’s about different ways of approaching life at large. The future is a space-time in permanent metamorphosis that not everyone inhabits on the same terms. Because it seems essential to collectively imagine what’s to come, Coming Soon tackles our ability to project common futures and dreamed horizons. On the opening evening, we ran into Marie Maertens, Clément Delépine, Chris Dercon, Andy Picci, Diane Pernet, Laurent Lebon, Inès Mélia, Jennifer Flay, Michel Rein and many others.
