“The Inner Island”, The New Exhibition by the Fondation Carmignac Questions Insularity

From April 29 to November 5, the Fondation Carmignac showcases over 80 works by around fifty artists, sourced from public and private collections, the Carmignac collection, and ten pieces created specifically for the exhibition, sketching out the dotted lines of an inner island. Genuinely an interstice between land and sea, the Foundation invites us to explore the possibility of an island through an extensive selection of works: From Peter Doig to Anna-Eva Bergman, Ali Cherri or Auguste Rodin. Curated by Jean-Marie Gallais, “The Inner Island” confronts viewers with floating worlds that transcend traditional notions like geography and temporality. And while this fictitious, mental, and abstract island was taking shape in our minds, a real Mediterranean island was the earthly setting for the opening night. Under a softly declining spring sunshine, we meet  Bernard Blistène, Fleur Pellerin, Augustin Trapenard, Carolyn Christov Barkagiev, Eugenio and Olga Sandretto ReRebaudengo, Michka Assayas, Antoine de Galbert, Jean-Pierre Blanc, Barbara Carlotti, Jacques, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Lily Barbery and more than twenty other artists from all over the world.
