The Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson Celebrates Twenty Years of Photography

The Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson hosted a gala dinner to celebrate its 20th anniversary on November 6th, 2023. The event, held under the patronage of Mrs. Rima Abdul Malak, French Minister of Culture, unveiled the winner of the HCB 2023 Award, Karim Kal, who received the prize from Carolyn Drake. The evening programme also included an auction conducted by François de Ricqlès and a reading performance by Joseph Schiano di Lombo.

Established by Henri Cartier-Bresson, his wife Martine Franck, and daughter Mélanie, the foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to preserving and promoting the work of its founders, as well as supporting other photographers and contemporary creations through the HCB Prize. Over the past two decades, the foundation has curated nearly 70 exhibitions, published 60 books, and hosted numerous events, establishing itself as a crucial player in the global photography community.

The gala, held at Pavillon Cambon Capucines, not only raised funds for the foundation but also served as a gathering for key figures in the photography world, for it coincided with the opening of the international photography exhibition Paris Photo, attended by French Minister of Culture Rima Abdul Malak.
