Jean-Marie Appriou, Takashi Murakami, Lynn Chadwick, and Emma Webster: Artists On the Radar, at Galerie Perrotin
One gallery, four shows: this Fall, Galerie Perrotin increases tenfold. With “Exonaut Horizon”, Jean-Marie Appriou introduces us to bicephalous beings, imprisoned by their crystal spacesuits. The exhibition features a series of timeless sculptures, lying somewhere between a mythological past and a dystopian future.
At the same venue, visitors can discover the creatures of Lynn Chadwick, a visionary who lived an outstanding career throughout the 20th century before passing away in 2003. The retrospective, curated by Matthieu Poirier, has its counterpart at the Centre des Monuments Nationaux – Hôtel de Sully.
Different room, different atmosphere. Takashi Murakami is the protagonist of the gallery’s space on Avenue Matignon, which he imbues with his signature flock of characters, direct emanations from the artist’s boundless imagination: fluorescent octopuses, giggling flowers, decadent pandas… They are all there, including Miss Good Things and Mr. Bad Things, his pop take on yin and yang.
Emma Webster is the one taking over the space at 10 impasse Saint-Claude, with her solo show “The Engine of Beasts”. Deceptively traditional, her oil paintings, portraying both animal and landscape subjects, exude a muted luminosity. While the Californian artist paints nature, her works are produced using VR tools.
To top off this already extensive programme, Perrotin is hosting Panorama, a group exhibition in the Salle de Bal, rue de Turenne, featuring paintings by Bernar Venet, canvases by Yves in dialogue with Jean-Marie Appriou’s sculpture ( part of the Surrealism programme) and bronze sculptures and works on canvas by Lee Bae.
