Istituto Marangoni re-thinks fashion during Art Basel Miami

With Istituto Marangoni, Art Basel Miami is proving to be a leading centre for ecological awareness, addressing the major players in fashion and art, particularly through the use of plastic materials. The famous Milanese Institute for fashion, art and design is now present all over the world. Each school has its own identity, and the Miami campus (which has just opened earlier this year), stands out for its commitment to sustainability. On the sidelines of Art Basel Miami, the Istituto Marangoni has asked seven world-renowned artists to produce a work raising ecological awareness and calling everyone to action: RE-THINK. Each of the works is accompanied by didactic panels. During the exhibition opening, some artists where seen explaining their work to the public. In a festive and somewhat “unreal” atmosphere, the designs exhibited on mannequins created a dialogue with the emblems of our consumer society – plastic bottles and other PVC derivatives. On inauguration night, one could meet artists Angel Sanchez, Martine Jarlgaard, Oscar Carvallo, Irma Martinez, Viviana Gabeiras, and “the House of Fluff”; and also Maria-Elena Leonardi and Katia Scala from the Milanese agency Studiokhom, which helped shape this impressive, eco-responsible building in the heart of the Miami Design District.
