The Infinite Woman at the Fondation Carmignac: Deciphering Femininity

On the island of Porquerolles, The Infinite Woman exhibit at the Fondation Carmignac is a daring journey through female representations. Curated by Alona Pardo, this captivating exhibition takes visitors on a journey to explore the diversity and complexity of female figures.

The setting for this journey is the island of Porquerolles. According to the legend, it was once home to a princess who was changed into a rock to escape from an assailant. From this legend, Alona Pardo reflects on the way in which women have been viewed from the earliest myths to the present day.

The Infinite Woman gathers more than 60 artists with different perspectives and whose artworks deconstruct the traditional stereotypes of femininity. These artists showcase reinterpretations of classical myths through contemporary narratives, breaking down oppressive patterns of representation to reveal possibilities for reclaiming female power and desire.

We can discover all kinds of female figures, sometimes familiar, sometimes unsettling, from sacred women to independent sirens, but also spider-women and augmented cyborgs… Each work questions the standards and opens up new horizons for expression and identity. The Infinite Woman goes beyond the binary representations of gender to celebrate diversity and the multiplicity of femininities. Housed in the enchanting setting of Villa Carmignac, the show is an artistic and interpersonal experience, inviting visitors to reflect on their world and celebrate the complex and elusive beauty of femininity.

During the opening, we met Edouard, Charles et Lucrèce Carmignac, Alona Pardo, France-Lise McGurn, Audrey Bazin and many more.
