Incandescent freedom of the artist Jörg Immendorff
From 15 October to 31 December 2016, Galerie Suzanne Tarasieve will be offering a plunge into the work of Jörg Immendorff, an incandescent and libertarian German artist who, from his debut at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf1 (1963) to his untimely death (2007), questions the cultural establishment and aesthetic dictates.
A pupil of Joseph Beuys’s most accomplice, fired from the Academy, emblematic artist and activist who will open with his peers a new golden age of German painting, Immendorff will sculpt, draw and paint tirelessly until his disappearance, questioning unceasingly and without complacency societal and political subjects, such as the environment.
In a constantly changing glossary, Immendorff brings together the great and the small history, provoking encounters between politicians, artists, activists, workers and craftsmen in a series that has become historical: Café Deutschland (1977-1983) and of which one of the most emblematic works (Café Deutschland VIII %u2013 Kein Licht für wen, 1980) is presented in the gallery.
Through this exhibition, the gallery Suzanne Tarasieve reveals the multiple facets of this revealing artist who has pointed out with her brush the afflictions and temptations of a contemporary society, under stress from the actors of power and the march of history.
