Inauguration of the MAMO in Marseille

While Marseille vibrates to the rhythm of art in this Capital Year, and a few days after the remarkable inauguration of MuCEM – the new flagship of Mediterranean cultures – the Phocéenne city opens a new hotspot on the roof of the Radieuse City, mythical urban residence (not to say manifest) built by Le Corbusier between 1945 and 1952. Project entrusted to Ora-ïto, who will be in charge of transforming this old gymnasium left fallow into a contemporary art centre with a 360° view. Named the MAMO in a nod to the New York institution, Marseille/Modulor opened its doors last weekend with the Xavier Veilhan exhibition, invited by the architect-designer to invest the ultra-convened rooftop as part of his “Architectones” projects. Another guest of choice, the bookstore-gallery 0fr installs an enclave at its street Dupetit-Thouars native, in which visitors will be able to find the selection of scholarly paper of the Thumerelle siblings.

And because Saywho couldn’t help but take a look at the city’s other novelties, the inaugural weekend was an opportunity to visit Kader Attia’s “Terraces” installation on the seawall, the MAC (Museum of Contemporary Art of Marseille) and its exhibition “The Bridge”, the MucEM, and the Friche La Belle de Mai, which welcomes from its terrace the young contemporary creation of the Mediterranean basin.
