In Marrakech, art fair 1-54 spotlights African contemporary art

The second edition of the African Contemporary art fair 1-54 took place from February 20th-24th in Marrakech—the third site of the fair following highly successful and respected editions in London and New York. The fair expanded its scope to the African continent after Europe and America because the fair’s founder, Touria El Glaoui, wants to highlight contemporary African art within its native territory. The city of Marrakech is the perfect location: a place of international artistic production and a true source of inspiration. For Touria El Glaoui, the goal is ultimately to stimulate local collectors’ interest in African art. The fair partnered with prestigious institutions for special projects outside the walls of the fair, including the Yves Saint Laurent Museum (which features an exhibition of work by Brice Marden), and the opening of DADA, a laboratory and exhibition space that presented installations by the artists Mohamed El Baz, Mo Baala and Emeka Ogboh.
