A Dream Within the Dream at MSGM
For his autumn-winter 23/24 collection, Massimo Giorgetti takes his cue from Edgar Allan Poe’s ‘A dream within a dream’ and, more specifically, from the following verses: ‘In a night, or in a day, in a vision, or in none, Is it therefore the less gone, all that we see or seem, is but a dream within a dream’. How then can we tell what is true and what is not, what is in a dream or in reality? The autumn-winter collection is based on this very illusion. The fashion show opens with a series of black looks: coats, shirts and skirts with minimal, bourgeois cuts. But the joyful side of MGMS is not lost forever, and the second act of the show reintegrates prints, colours, faux furs and stripes. The brand’s DNA seems to have evolved, perhaps becoming more mature, but still with a nod to the past through the fabrics and patterns. On the catwalk, Massimo remains faithful to the models who have followed him since his debut, some for years, such as Marjan Jonkman, who walked in a red dress with a baby bump.
