Ikea Kicks Off Milan Design Week With A Democratic Party

Tenoha, Milan

On April 7th, IKEA kicked off Milan Design Week with an opening party at 18 Via Vigevano. Driven by the motto “Do something. Change everything.”, IKEA staged a celebration of democratic design, spreading across several floors: the main area, courtyard and exhibition space. Guests had the opportunity to preview the new STOCKHOLM 2025 collection, created by three Swedish designers to offer urban elegance favouring natural materials like wood, linen, leather, wool and hand-woven rattan. Highlights of the collection include retro glass chandeliers and two different sofas: a modular model and a sofa made of solid pine and natural materials such as 100% cotton and coconut fibres. In addition to the latest novelties, IKEA is showcasing vintage furniture pieces selected for the IKEA Museum, which includes furnishings from 1985 to the present, spanning 40 years of study and evolution of the home concept.

What would a party be without music? For its opening party, IKEA thought of entertainment with Dargen D’Amico’s DJ set that got guests dancing. It will continue in rhythm throughout the week, with a lineup of Italian and international artists curated by five different curators to expand the meeting between different communities and cultures. Then there could be no shortage of Swedish food, from Smörgås to ice cream and drinks, which can be sampled throughout Design Week. Until April 13, IKEA’s program offers workshops, music and presentations for a collective reflection on living and the environment. Present at the event were: Victoria Cabello, Paride Vitale, Chiara Carcano and Stefano Seletti.
