IKEA Celebrates 80 Years of Innovation with a Party During Milan Design Week 2023

As IKEA celebrates its 80th anniversary, the Swedish brand looks back at its past. This is not a nostalgic look, however, but rather a memorializing one that focuses on innovation. IKEA’s journey through its 80 years of existence, traces the changes it has brought, and will continue to bring, into our homes. To mark the occasion, the Visconti pavilion, located in Via Tortona, in the heart of the Fuorisalone, has been transformed into a gigantic IKEA warehouse shop exhibiting some of the iconic objects of the yellow and blue brand.

This journey begins in the 50s, featuring designs sourced from the IKEA Museum in Älmhult, Sweden, which are no longer for sale. An immersive and surprising dive into IKEA’s legacy and the design trends of the time. Moving on, it reaches the present, where environmental sustainability and technology take centre stage. This journey also looks beyond and offers a vision of the future. Delineated with installations linked to the four elements of Nature, it brings about a reflection on our relationship with what is our home in a bigger picture, the planet Earth.

Throughout the week, the location in Tortona will host workshops, activities and evening events for the fair visitors. To properly kick off the week, a party was organised by La Rappresentante di Lista, which curated the DJ set of the evening. Among the many guests embarking on this journey into the IKEA universe, we found Julia Grant, Mr Destroy Paola Marella, Alberto Venin, Daniele Resconi, Luigi Luciano, Massimo Giorgetti and the comedy duo Alice Mangione and Gianmarco Pozzoli.
