As a prelude to the Fashion Week that begins in Paris, the Ministry of Culture proposes an exhibition dedicated to Wataru Tominaga and Vendula Knopovà, winners of the 31st edition as well as a retrospective of the winners of the last 20 years of the International Fashion and Photography Festival in Hyères.
“There is no better event that we can organize than to start with the creation the crazy week that awaits you all,” the minister said in her speech before recalling the importance of fashion in the economic, social and creative fabric of Paris and France. Everything that the Parisian milieu has of creators and professionals – if they were not preparing their fashion shows for the next day of course – came together for this retrospective which highlights not only the talents of tomorrow but also the signatures of today, like Julien Dossena, currently artistic director of Paco Rabanne.
Major changes announced by Jean-Pierre Blanc, founder and director of Villa Noailles, the launch of a still life photography prize and a specific accessory prize for 2017. A necessary evolution that is part of a more global movement. “There is a collective momentum that is intensifying and that is essential,”” decrypts Pascal Morand, executive president of the French sewing federation. “If you get out of fashion vocabulary, that’s what you call a market strategy. You have the different actors who are brought together for French fashion, which is international. Always according to the imperative of creation which is at the heart of everything we do. There must be, in particular, an intensification of the appropriation of the digital revolution, of the use of Fashion Tech. It’s not the hand on one side, digital tools on the other. It’s the tool in hand. As in any sector, those who are not in this movement encounter difficulties. We are in a world leadership position and we will reinforce it with this bias.
