Haute Couture and 80s by Alexandre Vauthier

This wasn’t Alexandre Vauthier’s first rodeo. Trained by Mugler, then Jean-Paul Gaultier, the French fashion designer has already experienced haute couture week, and this season’s show is likely to become a red-carpet classic, once again. All-black looks composed of leather bombers and suit jackets with colossal shoulder pads opened the show. Splashes of colour gradually tinged the silhouettes, in the form of orange sequined shoes or fluorescent yellow structured jackets that brightened up the catwalk. The show ended with a nod to the 80s with electrifying tulle dresses that recalled a period of eccentricity that Vauthier intends to revive.
