Graciela Iturbide in the spotlight at the Fondation Cartier in Paris

A major figure in Latin American photography, Graciela Iturbide is in the spotlight at the Fondation Cartier. For her first major exhibition in France in 40 years, the Mexican artist presents ‘Heliotropo 37’, a collection of 200 works dating from the 1970s to today. The title of the exhibition is inspired by the address of her studio at 37 Calle Heliotropo in Mexico City. Its brick architecture is the work of her son Mauricio Rocha, who also designed the exhibition’s scenography. ‘Heliotropo 37’ shows a thorough portrait of Graciela Iturbide, whose work oscillates between a documentary and poetic approach. Known for her work with black and white photography, she unveils a series of color photographs from 2021 at the initiative of the Fondation Cartier in Tecali, a Mexican village where she took interest in alabaster and onyx quarries. The exhibition is held at the Fondation Cartier from February 12 to May 29, 2022.
