Germanier’s Comeback Features Whimsical Creatures
Kevin Germanier makes quite a splash in this freshly started Paris Fashion Week with a show featuring fantastical half-man, half-monster silhouettes dressed in flashy colours and eccentric accessories. The collection is a fearless statement of intent by the Swiss designer, who affirms his wish to transcend fashion and shake up its tenets, while also evoking the wild extravagance of Mugler’s golden age. By tackling the thin demarcating line separating the beautiful from the ugly, Germanier bets on the grotesque and presents an otherworldly universe. Laws are reversed, so nothing is to be considered out of the ordinary anymore. The inhabitants of this new vision are wrapped in shimmering textured capes, psychedelic prints, and eccentric jumpsuits adorned with giant spines and colourful feathers. Both pop and punk, the pieces narrate a whimsical tale populated by a myriad of outstandingly singular beings which, either wearing stretchy balaclavas or glossy pearl shells, leave no one indifferent.
Seated on the front row, we spotted Kam Hugh, Jonathan Hayden, Isabelle Chaput, Nara Kim, and many others.
