Gerhard Richter, Six Decades of Art at the Fondation Louis Vuitton
After David Hockney, the Foundation Louis Vuitton is hosting another great master: Gerhard Richter. Famous for his photo-paintings from the 1960s, with their hazy blurring that has become his signature style over time, the German painter has established himself as one of the most iconic figures in 20th- and 21st-century art. Driven by a profound reflection on the history and climate of his country, Richter has developed a unique body of work, oscillating between figuration and abstraction. His work has revolutionized our view of the image and left a lasting mark on art history. Curated by Dieter Schwarz and Nicholas Serota, this unprecedented monograph retraces sixty years of creation through a selection of 275 works, up to the turning point of 2017, when the artist abandoned painting to devote himself exclusively to drawing.
During the opening, which took place on Wednesday, October 15th, we met Sabine et Ella Richter, David Zwirner, Jean-Gabriel Mitterrand, Laurent Dumas, Philippe Houzé, Laurence des Cars, Laurent Le Bon, Ingrid Brochard, et Guillaume Piens, among others.
