Gaurav Gupta Steals the Show during Haute Couture Week with ‘The Divine Androgyne’

Palais Brogniart, Paris

Are you familiar with the Indian philosophy of Advaita: everything is one, and opposites balance each other? Gaurav Gupta used it as a foundation for his spectacular show ‘The Divine Androgyne’, in which haute couture is used as a metaphysical language, exploring unity beyond gender, time, and matter. The feminine energy symbolizes Shakti, while the masculine energy represents consciousness: neither can exist independently.

Central to his work is a patented technique that involves thousands of hours of work to create intricate embroidered networks resembling the interconnections that make up our nervous system. Sparing no effort so that magic can spring from creation: that is haute couture. Embroidery, lace, crystals, and crinolines evoke contrasting feelings, and halfway between evanescence and power, the collection feels both like a poetic sheath and a warrior corset.

During this show, which places craftsmanship back at the heart of the creative process, we met Eliza and Amelia Spencer, Merve Görgöz, Pia Wurtzbach, Clara Berry, and Ellie Delphine.
