Galerie Downtown honors Charlotte Perriand
Since opening his gallery on rue de Seine in 1982, François Laffanour has rallied major collectors around Charlotte Perriand’s work: today the designer is considered one of the greatest of the 20th century. Galerie Downtown is exhibiting “Living with Charlotte Perriand” (on view until November 2), accompanied by a book celebrating 40 years of her work and collectors. The gallery opening drew figures from the realms of art, design and fashion, including Kris Van Assche, Sarah Andelman, Julio Le Parc, Pierre Hardy and India Mahdavi. French journalist Virginie Mouzat was also present to sign her new book, “Et devant moi la liberté,” an imaginary journal by Charlotte Perriand. Further adding to the mythic French designer’s legacy, the Fondation Louis Vuitton will open a major exhibition dedicated to her work starting this month.
