The Fondation Cartier invites Artavazd Pelechian and Sarah Sze

By inviting Artavazd Pelechian and Sarah Sze, the Fondation Cartier once again bears witness to the strong ties with the artists it has been showing for over thirty years. Artavazd Pelechian unveils his new film, ‘Nature’, the first in twenty-seven years, as part of a new exhibition, ‘Nature, The Seasons’, devoted to the legendary filmmaker whose work has been shown on several occasions at the Fondation Cartier. The result of a commission from the Fondation Cartier and the ZKM (Karlsruhe) in 2005, ‘Nature’ is presented as a world premiere as part of this exhibition. This film creates a dialogue with another masterpiece by the filmmaker: ‘The Seasons’, an ode to the peasant world made in 1975. The exhibition thus draws a unique portrait of this filmmaker whose filmography occupies a special place in the history of cinema. For her second solo exhibition at the Fondation Cartier, American artist Sarah Sze has created ‘Night into Day’, an immersive exhibition in dialogue with the transparent spaces of Jean Nouvel’s building. Known for her approach between painting, sculpture and architecture, the artist has created two installations, ‘Twice Twilight’ and ‘Tracing Fallen Sky’, which invite visitors to explore how the proliferation of images transforms our relationship to objects, time and memory. Both exhibitions are on view at the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain from October 24 to March 7.
