Ferragamo takes the graceful side of the 80s to the catwalk

Maximilian Davis’s approach to Ferragamo’s heritage is that of a passionate researcher. Each season, the designer focuses on a specific moment in the career and life of the legendary founder of the brand and on this basis he reconstructs and reinterprets a composite world that shapes the collection. As he himself explains: “I have always incorporated different historical eras into my work – eras in which I can recognize myself and my heritage. I looked for similarities with Ferragamo, and the beauty of this brand is that there are so many different stories that you can relate to. Every shoe has its own meaning. Every shoe has a story”. For spring summer 2025, the inspiration comes from the ballerinas that Salvatore Ferragamo made to measure for Nureyev and for the dancer and anthropologist Katherine Dunham in the 1980s. The universe of dance is therefore manifested on this catwalk, among bodysuits, leotards, tank tops, tight shorts, small cardigans and leg warmers, an imaginary halfway between La Scala and Flashdance, given the strong references to the Eighties. The decade is the protagonist throughout the collection, thanks to the amplified silhouettes of balloon dresses and outerwear, and of decidedly oversized trench coats and trousers. Footwear naturally plays a leading role, in particular the evolution of the Eva pumps with curved heels and the new sandals characterized by opaque silk laces that wrap around the ankle, of course inspired by the ballet shoes ones.
