JR’s Spectacular “Dans La Lumière” Exhibition at Perrotin Paris
Yesterday evening, we attended the unveiling of “Dans La Lumiere”, JR’s new solo show at Galerie Perrotin. The exhibit features a series of new artworks inspired by the CHIROPTERA project, a unique ballet performance devised by JR, Damien Jalet, and Thomas Bangalter, created specifically for the Opéra de Paris in November 2023.
For this new exhibit, JR has created pieces with an unprecedented technique (photo transfer reinforced with black ink on wood with hand-drawn charcoal highlights) but also films and photographic prints capturing several moments of the CHIROPTERA project, on a scale the size of the city. The artist has also invited Thomas Bangalter to present a sound installation in Saint-Claude from June 7th to 15th.
Some of the celebrities in attendance for this evening full of performances included Bérénice Bejo, Michel Hazanavicius, Matthieu Kassovitz, Laetitia Casta, Louis Garrel, Pharrel Williams, Christine and The Queens, HollySiz, Thomas Roussel, Panayotis Pascot, Élise Lucet, Élodie Bouchez, Bérengère Krief, Pedro Winter and Sarah Andelman. But also a host of artists: Cristina BanBan, Johan Creten, Mathilde Denize, Elizabeth Glaessner, GaHee Park, Laurent Grasso, Iván Argote, as well as the director of the Musée National d’Art Moderne Xavier Rey and art critic Marc Donnadieu.
