Études Studio Presents “Surroundings”, a Collection Inspired by Land Art and the Desert
For this Spring-Summer season, Études Studio is taking over the Palais de Tokyo with “Surroundings”, a collection inspired by Land Art. This artistic movement from the 1970s is characterised by the use of natural materials such as sand, water and earth in contemporary design. This influence translates here in a show full of artistic references to the couple formed by pioneers of Land Art Nancy Holt and Robert Smithson, whose gigantic artworks were displayed in the desolate landscapes of Utah. The wardrobe is inspired by the American West, with high boots and worksite shoes blending with functional, structured workwear with urban accents. A clever mix of tailored and oversized cuts, the collection is mostly made from denim and other outdoor materials, in predominantly ochre and black tones. A few colourful pieces stood out, including an ensemble with red, white and blue motifs, the result of a collaboration with South Korean artist Maia Ruth Lee. The show, designed by Aurélien Arbet and Jérémie Egry, brought together Orelsan, Woodkid, Pedro Winter, XXX and many others
