Ettore Sottsass and urban art meet at Artcurial
For five years now, right on time for FIAC, Artcurial has exhibited a sale exclusively dedicated to Design, a department that the auction house has been developing for several years. After Charlotte Perriand last year, it is now the great Ettore Sottsass who is the subject of an exhibition at 7, Rond-Point des Champs-Élysées. An Italian designer with a major influence, he is known to have created the Memphis movement. Thus, Artcurial will offer for sale about forty lots illustrating Sottsass’s vocabulary (an approach that gives its name to the exhibition “Repertorio Sottsass”) through the years and mediums. The exhibition was entirely designed by the French architect Charles Zana, himself a collector of Ettore Sottsass. While Artcurial puts design under the spotlight, the auction house also invites street art in their salons with this second October exhibition “Search & Stop, collecting from Banksy to Mark Ryden”. A beautiful sample (about a hundred works) of a private collection dedicated to Neo-Pop and urban art of the 20th and 20th centuries. The visitor wouldn’t have missed the furniture exhibition in dialogue with artist Pierre Malbec on the ground floor. The opening of the two exhibitions was organized in collaboration with the John Taylor agency (now part of the Artcurial group), as well as the Italian-flavored cocktails designed by SoITAL.
