Enrica Alessi and Jacopo Ascari Present the Latest Book Published by Rizzoli
Milan’s historic Gio Moretti store, opened in 1970 on Via della Spiga, is hosting the signing of the new book “Storie (che non passano) di moda” by Enrica Alessi with illustrations by Jacopo Ascari. The book features some of fashion’s biggest personalities such as Chanel, Balenciaga, Dior and even Valentino, alongside inventors of what could be called the Italian look: Armani, Versace, Ferré, Moschino, Coveri. The book likewise draws several references to such multifaceted personalities as Elio Fiorucci and Iris Apfel, Diana Vreeland, Anna Piaggi, or Cecil Beaton. Major protagonists of the luxury industry, Louis Vuitton and Hermès to name just a few sit alongside other figures of irreverence and extraordinary creativity, Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood.
Page after page, Enrica Alessi tries to unveil the deepest soul of these great names through a book that starts with facts and dwells on emotions. For it is precisely the emotions that have been at the heart of fashion thinking and that still make today’s fashion. Two centuries of fashion history are illustrated in this book, with drawings by Jacopo Ascari – whom we met in June for his exhibition “Destiny of Urbanism. The union of Ascari and Alessi’s visions resulted in a very interesting work. Because in an age of hearts and likes, which revolves only on social media, the two take a step back. There was a desire to return to the origins of fashion by talking about these great personalities without photographs but rather with detailed illustrations reminiscent of the latter days of the early editions of Vogue. Instead, they want to tell about a world of dreams, of beautiful fabrics and possibilities. A time when great beginnings were the norm, a time that fashion houses and creative directions still strive for.
The book was introduced in Milan at Gio Moretti’s emblematic boutique. Many were present: journalists, former collaborators of Gianni Versace and prominent figures of the industry. But also friends of Enrica and Jacopo who could not, of course, miss the book signing. The 285-page book is available online and at Rizzoli Galleria in Milan.
