Edgar Jayet Reinvents the “Bouillotte” Lamp, Emblematic Heritage of the Maison Delisle

Creator of exceptional custom lighting fixtures and master bronze manufacturer since 1895, Maison Delisle has chosen Edgar Jayet to honour a part of its heritage: the “bouillotte” lamp. One of the few objects in the history of the decorative arts to have remained in interiors until the late 1990s, this lamp originated from an 18th-century bluffing card game of the same name, which became particularly popular. Made of two, three or even four candlesticks and a lampshade that can be adjusted to match the size of the candles, the “bouillotte” lamp provides a muted light for the game table, often made of marble. A beautiful object, but also a practical one, since a small plate at the foot of the lamp allows players to store their tokens.

Young designer Edgar Jayet has come up with a new version with sleek, modern lines, presented this Tuesday, January 14th at the Château de Chantilly in a wonderful celebration of French craftsmanship. After a guided tour of the château conducted by Director of the Musée Condé Mathieu Deldicque, guests were treated to a presentation of the collection and a cocktail reception, during which we met Sophie Fontanel, Anne Racine, Anatole Maggiar, Saïd Berkane, Gilbert Kann and Dan Thawley.
