The legacy of Dora Maar resituated at the Centre Pompidou

Dora Maar, known for having been Picasso’s muse, has an exhibition of her own work on view from June 5 to July 29 at the Centre Pompidou. The museum spotlights her output as an accomplished artist through a selection of 500 works and 80 documents. Photographer-turned-painter, Dora Maar’s work has often remained in the shadow of Picasso’s, and today the Centre Pompidou shows the artist in her own right: her intellectual approach, surrealist aesthetic and, above all, independence. The exhibition is the largest retrospective dedicated to the artist in France to date, and is organized in co-production with the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles and the Tate Modern in London.
