The Discovery of an Unknown Masterpiece by L’Alliance New York and ICONOFLY
L’Alliance New York, whose mission is to build cultural bridges between the United States and France, is co-curating with ICONOFLY “I Am There: Robert Markell”, an exhibition featuring an artistic treasure recently discovered by Olivia Bransbourg and Tatyana Franck, which sees the light these days on the occasion of Art Basel Paris. After a career as art director of 12 Angry Men (1957), Robert Markell went on to produce classic films and television shows, winning 5 Emmy Awards, before devoting himself to drawing and painting at the age of 70. This exhibition celebrates the unprecedented discovery of thousands of watercolors, paintings and prints by the artist, who would have celebrated his 100th birthday this year. It’s a unique opportunity to dive into the creative universe of Markell, whose works captivate with their spontaneity and poetry.
The exhibition is held at the IDEM art print shop and its adjacent gallery, located in the heart of the Montparnasse district. This historic site, built in 1881, was home to the lithographic print shops of artists such as Matisse, Picasso, Miró and Chagall, and continues today to inspire a new generation of contemporary artists. After a concert by Aurélie Saada, we met Katherine Fleming, Paloma Picasso, Laurent Le Bon, Jean-Paul Agon, Kulapat Yantrasat, Victoire de Pourtales, Sylvie Patry, Frédéric Jousset, Nina Childress, Jose Levy, Charles Guyot, Isabelle Kowal, Eva Jospin, Patrice Forest, Matthieu Poirier, Lorenz Bäumer…
