diptyque and Jérôme Sans present “Immobile Journeys – The Grand Tour” in Paris
There are journeys that do not require to travel. With “Immobile Journeys – The Grand Tour”, diptyque pays tribute to the philosophy of its founders who shared the same curiosity about the world. The exhibition was just inaugurated as part of the 60th anniversary of the House at the newly reopened Poste du Louvre, which was renovated by architect Dominique Perrault. Curated by Jérôme Sans, the exhibition presents a series of original installations by nine international artists. Joël Andrianomearisoa, Andreas Angelidakis, Johan Creten, Gregor Hildebrandt, Chourouk Hriech, Rabih Kayrouz, Ange Leccia, Zoë Paul and Hiroshi Sugimoto unveil their singular vision of ‘travel’ in an itinerary inviting to both mental and aesthetic roaming. Centered on five destinations dear to diptyque (among them Greece, Iran and Italy), the various artworks offer new interpretations of what it means to ‘travel’, and create synergies between the artist’s singular visions and practices. Some of them even meet within the exhibition, like one of Johan Creten’s sculptures inserted into Gregor Hildebrandt’s immersive installation. Thus, from Joël Andrianomearisoa’s poems that pay homage to Paris to the Andreas Angelidakis’ “post-ruins” to Ange Leccia’s globes hanging from ceiling, the visitor is invited to take part in a personal journey towards new horizons.
