Dior S/S20 with Monica Bellucci and Natalia Vodianova

Nature has been a key feature of Paris Fashion Week. Climate change and Hurricane Greta Thunberg have been majorly blowing up on social networks–and more and more designers are discussing the need to protect the environment (…the ready-to-wear industry is, in fact, amongst the most polluting on earth). Since her start at Dior, Maria Grazia Chiuri has been using fashion shows to express political messages (everyone remembers her “We should all be feminists” T-shirt). Today, committing to environmental causes is a central theme. The Dior designer has joined forces with Coloco—a group of Parisian landscapers, urban planners and botanists—who work to make “landscapes welcoming environments for biological and cultural diversity.” The team created a forest that will outlast the show, adding to Paris’s biodiversity. Maria Grazia Chiuri drew inspiration from Catherine Dior—Miss Dior, Christian’s sister—who was a member of the French Resistance and a serious botanist. The elegant collection walked before guests like Jennifer Lawrence, Chiara Ferragni, Monica Bellucci, Laetitia Casta, Luka Sabbat, Karlie Kloss, Adèle Exarchopoulos and Natalia Dyer.
