“Die, My Love”: A Couple on the Brink of Implosion
Premiered in Cannes last Saturday, Lynne Ramsay’s “Die, My Love” revealed an outstanding performance by Jennifer Lawrence. The American actress portrays Grace, a young mother struggling with post-partum depression, and whose relationship with Jackson (Robert Pattinson) is gradually falling apart because of it. Abrupt descent into hell, hallucinations and violent tendencies: Grace is overwhelmed and drags those around her into her nightmare. The characters evoke pity, incomprehension, contempt and compassion all at once, and we even come to fear for Grace, Jackson and even their baby Harry. Director Lynne Ramsay makes the viewer a witness to this overwhelming and crushing madness in a harsh, yet truthful film, whose lead performances strike just the right chord. Alongside Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson on the red carpet, we met Lynne Ramsay, Lakeith Stanfield, Molly Smith, and Barbara Palvin.
