David LaChapelle writes his “Letter to the World” at Galerie Templon

Artist as emblematic as he is mysterious, David LaChapelle presents in November a new exhibition at Galerie Templon. With “Letter to the World”, the photographer takes on a journey from the excesses of our consumer society to a utopian “New World” where nature has regained its rights. Spread over the two floors of the gallery, the exhibition features a series of iconic photographs by the artist, including “Death by Hamburger” or “Addicted to Diamonds”, and portraits of David Bowie, Andy Warhol or Michael Jackson. More than a commentary of our civilization “on the verge of collapse”, LaChapelle opens the way to an utopian future with the works on display on the first floor. Almost like collages, his images refer to the works of the great masters and to a religious iconography he is so skilled in making his own. The exhibition also reveals to the public some of his first photographs dated from 1983 to 1989. Organized on November 3, the opening brought together a crowd of the artist’s fans, starting with Daphne Guinness, before the party continued at the Les Bains’ bar. The exhibition is to be seen until 29 December at 28 rue du Grenier Saint-Lazare.
